After being here in Key West now for a few years, I have finally made it out to The Dry Tortugas National Park. It was quite an adventure getting there. We boarded the Yankee Freedom around 7:45 in the morning and immediately ate some breakfast. We probably shouldn't have. There was a lot of waves and wind that day, which made some of us a little green. For 2 1/2 hours we were tossed around on the catamaran boat. Grace managed to clear the entire upper deck when she threw up on Brandon. We took her downstairs, where she threw up on him two more times before finally passing out. Luckily Brandon had brought a pair of swim trunks with him, so he was able to change his pants. He did have to buy a shirt though. I was thinking and brought Grace an extra outfit. She ended up needing it. Brandon gets the "Best Dad" award that day for sure!
After we got there we enjoyed the tour of the "Largest Masonry Structure in the Western Hemisphere" and hearing about the history of this old military fort that never saw battle. We enjoyed seeing the different types of birds that nested on the neighboring island and seeing the different shades of blue and green of the water. The ride back was much more pleasant, thanks to Dramamine. It ended up being a good day, despite the sickness.
